tranny code p1870 blues

hi, i`ve got a code up the other day when I ran a scan on my truck, and called the dealer to find more out. They said it was a transmission slip code, and it needed a service on the entire valve body. I called around, and an independent rebuilder, started telling me that the dealer would rip me off by working over the entire valve body. I`m thinking it might just be a sensor that is plugged into the valve body. I could be wrong, but I pulled the pan, inspected the dust, which was minimal for 118k mi. and no 'chunks' were attached to the magnet. The transmission is in very good condition, for it`s age, shifts just fine, never towed anything, never raced, etc. But the filter looked like hell, because it`s been in there since new i`d bet. I did a backyard check of everything, and it is all plugged in on the valve body. Installed new filter, gasket, and new fluid, and sped away. Do you suppose the filter could have caused enough restriction to cause the code to come up? Thanx fer any hep, Dave

That may have been it. You should reset the code and see if it comes back. If it truely is a value body problem it is difficult to diagnois as it usually only start to fail when it is hot. - After driving like 50 - 60 miles on the highway or in hot summer conditions. If it is shot you will start to notice a hard shift from 1st to 2nd, again only when hot. IF your code comes back you can take it to the dealer and they can run a diagnostic on the value body itself and test its functions at different temps. When mine went it was good untill 160 Degeres and then failed at 170, 180, and 200. They replaced it, cost only $600 and the shit works great. They also had to remove the pan and mine looked god like yours as well, changes the filter etc. So dont let them charge you for that. Good Luck Buddy.

A couple of things could be wrong, Dave but in my case the Sonnax TCC valve kit seems to be working.

If I had the bucks readily available, I probably would go ahead & replace the valve body, [I don't know if the Sonnax TCC kit takes care of all the potential valve body related issues or not], but for $275 installed & no more slamming 1-2 shifts, I'm happy so far with Sonnax.

Good luck with yours!

-Mike
