getting paint to re-paint a GM??

I need to repaint the rear passenger side quarter panel on our GM. The clearcoat went bad on that piece. I got two differnt spray cans that were custom mixed for the color of the GM. Both were off, the last one I used to paint it is just a little too dark.
I have someone who will paint it, but he wont unless I can get the paint. He says it is hard to match so it will look right.

Anyone have a idea where I can get a small container of Opal Frost paint for a 94 GM?

Any automotive paint store will be able to mix it for you, you’ll need the paint code from the front drivers door tag. No matter what, you wont get a perfect color match since the rest of the car has 12 years of paint fade.

If they cant get it exact then how do body shops match paint when someon gets into an accident?

Re: Re: getting paint to re-paint a GM??

If the car is only a few years old then it no big deal since the paint isn't overly faded. But we're talking about a 12 year old paint job here. I have a 94 CV that I have repainted a fender, header and bumper cover on since the rest of the car's paint was almost mint. What I did was painted the car and about a month later wet sanded the newly painted parts and buffed out the clear coat to match the rest of the car, This gave the new paint a bit of a aged look, but still on a sunny day when the car is in direct sunlight you can tell that it's a bit off. I'm guessing that it's a metallic paint that you have on the car, you can lighten it up a little with a very small amount of silver mixed into the paint but like I said before you'll never match the old paint 100%.
