2000 Blazer 4WD causes wheel lockup on tight turns
Greetings:
First, I love this forum and others like it where everyone helps out. I was in a parking lot yesterday and turning my wheel hard left when my Blazer acted as if the brakes were on. When I straightened the wheels out it was OK. I turned them hard right and the same thing happened, acted as if I was stepping on the brakes (which I obviously wasn't). I checked the power steering fluid and it was OK. Then I noticed I was in 4 wheel Hi but I usually have it in 2 wheel hi and had not changed it to 4 wheel. My wife says she did not and the kids say they did not. Maybe I bumped it by mistake. But, when in 4 wheel hi is this a common problem? Once I put it in 2 wheel drive everything was OK. Thanks |

you are not supposed to go full lock on the steering with the 4wd engaged.

Re: 2000 Blazer 4WD causes wheel lockup on tight turns
This is not a problem at all. When you engage your 4WD, of course there is a certain amount of resistance while you are turning all the way because all the tires are driving and they will fight each other a little bit. What WILL cause a problem is having 4x4 engaged without even knowing. Your not suppose to run you 4x4 on dry pavement at all, I dont even run mine on wet pavement (not that i would ever need to), because that will severely shorten the life of all your parts related the 4x4 system.

Re: 2000 Blazer 4WD causes wheel lockup on tight turns
Thanks for the good/bad news. Good that it's not a problem for what I described and bad that I don't know how long I was running on 4WD and why. I'll have to glance at it more often or maybe I'll recognize how it's driving and know it's in 4WD. I just got my Blazer a month ago and I'm still learning about it.
Thanks!! |
