1986 running rich

My truck is running rich. I smell strong gas fumes from the exhaust..do these trucks have 02 sensors? what all shoulsdi check?

You're 100% right; if you have an O2 sensor, that's the first and best place to start. Doesn't the 86 have the throttle body injection?

Yeah it does, 1987 was the first year for fuel injection.

Should be easy to replace the O2 sensor, check around the cat and you'll see where it's plugged into the exhaust. Unplug, unscrew, and replace....give your truck a little while to adjust to the new part, and see if it takes care of the over-rich situation.
