Question about a rim

I'm trying to stretch out a lip from a 19 inch rim and make it fit onto a 20 inch rim. Any ideas on how to this, I was thinking about using heat to stretch it but I'm really scared to this because I do not want to mess it up. Thanks for your help.

I would sand down the rim.

hiroboy did a tutorial on sanding down rims to fit pegasus sleeves. I'm thinking you could do the same. Just make sure to only sand down the front edge of the rim (i.e. much less than the thickness of the lip ) so that the lip has a nice little 'shelf' to sit on. So that it looks sort of the way the Aoshima rims do before the lip is put on. And once the lip is on, you can smooth out the entire rim+lip to fit on a 19" tire.

or whatever, just how I would do it. I'd like to hear other ideas

The thing is I don't want sand it down to a 19 inch rim size, I want to keep it the same size.

I don't think heating up the chrome ring is a good idea..

But anyway I would put the ring on something (steel perhaps) of a slightly conical shape, heat it very slowly (with a heat gun and from a fair distance away) and gently push it up the cone towards the bigger side.
You would need to push it evenly probably with another ring of some sort.



Maybe your better off finding a bit of steel / aluminium pipe and cutting some off for a trim ring? Unless you can use the inside of the 20" rim for a lip. You can always use any plastic to replace it because it wouldn't be seen.

Don't use heat, you will ruin the part. I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish, but heating up the part will not get you there... - Mark

Not sure either what you are trying to do Can you post pics of the wheels and lips you are working with. Brands of wheels and/or what kit they came from would help along with measurements of the wheel and lip.
