High RPM low power

Daughter drove her 98 Jeep home from work with no problems. After an hour stop the jeep would not go above 20-25 mph, RPM was up over 4500 and at times near 6000. Automatic Transmission, 4 cylinder engine. Any ideas out there?

Re: High RPM low power

Check transmission fluid.

If the motor is racing and no power is going to the transmission, there's likely a problem with the trans.

How many miles?

Re: High RPM low power

you are describing what I would think to be a faulty speed sensor.
