Water flooding passenger side

My daughter's 00 LX has an odd problem where it will dump a load of water (not anitfreeze) into the passenger side from the heater vent. It only happens after it rains and I've already sealed the tail light gaskets. At first I thought it was a clogged drain and pulled that out to clear it. It was clogged, but even a few days after fixing that the same thing happened. Rainy day and the passenger side floor ends up w/1-2" of water!

I did notice some mold/mildew on the foam pad for the recirc door and cleaned that but now I'm wondering if there's a way for water to come in from the wiper assy area in through the recirc port?

If not, does anyone have any other ideas?

TIA

Re: Water flooding passenger side

mine had this problem too. It was the vents on the trunk on the sides of the car. they are under the carpet on the fenders. what hapened in mine was that the spare tire hole fills and then when you brake the wahter finds an easy way to the pasanger side. mine was sometimes a inch and a half on the hole car. (in florida rains a lot) good luck

Thanks for the response, but I'm afraid that isn't it. The trunk's been dry since I sealed the tail lights. The water comes in from the heater vent. Sudden and in a rush, not a slow creep from the back. I've even been sitting there and gotten my legs drenched. I'm just at a loss as to the cause. Plus I hate spending hours to pull that dash out!

Maybe I could install a bilge pump from the marine store and cycle it from time to time?

Re: Water flooding passenger side

My sons 200 did the same thing.
I picked up some black moulding silicone and whith a wooden pencil, spread the moulding around the front window and pushed in some silicone. Also removed the wiper blades and then the iintake cover and sealed every open spot within reason that I could find. It worked for me, just not sure if the window trim was the cause.
Oh!, just wondering. I would check my sons car but its not here. Are there any water plugs loose in the engine compartment, or drain plugs under the floor missing?
Hope it helps
Wayne

Re: Water flooding passenger side

Sorry to dredge this up but I just realized I never posted the solution!

I tried sealing the windshield but that didn't help me. So I finally ran a hose on the widshield w/the hood up and watched the water flow. I found the resistor block for the fan motor was getting hit when the water came off the windshield. The back of the connector only has a few wires in use but several openings for others and the water flowed in the fresh air intake and eventually sloshed down to the fan. A little RTV around the seam and on the back of the connector solved the problem! Now the passenger doesn't get soaked and the fan doesn't pop the fuse when it's full!
