1996 Mercury Grand Marquis temperature gauge inoperative

I have a 96 Grand Marquis and the temp gauge does not move from cold. I replaced the sensor per the Ford rep and still have the same problem. The sensor has two wires on it. I am only use to seeing one wire. Please respond with any solutions.
