which firebird trans am?

I am kinda new to the whole firebird thing, but i was wondering which year i should get, i want t tops and am looking for one of the older ones..mid 80's and below. i kinda like the, there is one in my area. i like how the hood has that hole in it. id be using this car as an everyday car. i dont want to have to do a lot of work to it. i dont want to spend more than about 13,000 when i buy it. and i was wondering if anything knew any good ones to get, and what price most should be around. and could someone tell me the difference in the different years also? thanks in advance!

Re: which firebird trans am?

front end changed in 77 from two round headlights in 76 to 4 square ones in 77 till 81 er whatever the cut off year is... later the 79 like early to late 80s have a redesigned body style... lost the curves it had in the 70s and 60s and got sorta squarer... shaker hood was lost on t/a models i believe.. smaller poweplants to i believe

I would say 76 and older would be the way to go that way you could get the 455 and less emissions. Personally I like the 76 but I am partial It's a great car the only problem is it was different from the years before and the years after, it's kind of the independent year which makes it difficult to find body parts for sometimes so find one without rust.

If it has the Shaker hood, i'd take it if its in good condition. Also generation years are...

1st gen: 67-69
2nd gen: 70-81
3rd gen: 82-92
4th gen: 93-02

For both Maro and Firebird
