Hood Release Cable Broke!

Yet another problem. This morning my hood release cable it broke. The cable is broken right at the handle. How do I fix/replace it? Right now, I to take a cloth hanger and slip it under the hood and try to release the hood. I can do it in about 30 seconds, but it really sucks.

I have a 1989 jeep cherokee.

Can you grab the end of the cable with vise grips? If so, you can pull it to open the hood and then replace the cable.

The cable is back in the hole where the hand was. I don't know how to get to it.

Is the cable "bunched up" at the latch end?? If it is, maybe you can undo it from the latch and push it thru and out the handle end to do something with it otherwise its bite the bullet and break out the sock to get a new one.

When you do replace it, tie a cord to the latch end when you pull the old cable out. then tie the cord to the new cable and just pull it back thru the same way it came out.
