This one is a tuff one to solve, PLZ help!

well, i am trying to install a new headunit in my 96 geo metro, 1.0L 5-spd. but the problem is that the person that had the car before me basically just took the radio and cut all the wires in the back= Douche!
but anyways, i am having hard time trying to find out what the wires that are sticking out mean. i dont know the color code. i tried lookling around the internet for stock radio wiring diagrams but got nothing, the only thing i found was 1985-current GM vehicles, i tried that diagram and blew a fuse DOH! so basically what i am asking is if anybody can help me figure out what wire means what! Please help i need my music.

I installed a new AIWA headunit in my 95 1.0L 5 speed Metro.

Good times! I upgraded the speakers also, I know what you are going through! haha

Those rear speakers are a huge biotch to get to, especially in a hatchback! :0)

The Geo metro door panels are so flimsy. I love that about the car, its so light.

LOL yeah i already put new sony X-Plod speakers in, front and rear, and yeah the back ones are a real biatch to get to, i have the hatchback, lol. and thanks for the color code, immma try it today and post back on how it worked out. Thanks alot for the help it should sound nice tho, speakers are 180watt max 50 rms, and the headunit is a pioneer
deh-2500 50x4 watts. if i cant get this installed, best buy will do it for like 90 bucks! which isint a bad deal cuz i got the headunit and speakers brand new from a friend for like 100 dollars!

ok well i went and looked at the wires i have to work with and saw some complications, i have a red and what could be a faded green but looks like a grey for the dimmer, and the same problem for the illumintaion, it could be a faded yellow but looks like a white stripe, and also i have a 12 volt igniton acc wire and a 12 volt batt memory wire, which 12 volt goes to what?

Dimmer Red/Green) im goin to try the faded lookinf wires, cuz after all it is a 96, so the yellow could llok white, and the green could look grey?

this is from my Haynes manual for 90 and newer

battery - white
ignition - white/black
panel light - red/green and red/yellow
RF spk - red and red/black
LF spk - orange and orange/black
RR spk - grey/white and grey/black
LR spk - light green/white and light green/black
and of course the ground is black also on the speakers i would say that the color/black is the negative.

thx alot for the help, the sound system sounds great! im just happy to finally get music in my little Geo! but i did have a problem early on,

i had a Pioneer Deh-2500 in which is 50x4 watts. but that one overheated and stoped working until it colled down.

so the solutution was to put in a Pioneer Deh-1400, which is only 45x4, and the speakers can handle 180 watts, what coyld be causing the
Deh-2500 to over heat? to much power, or is it simply some bad wiring inside the headunit?

it could be that its just getting to hot i had one that stopped working when it got hot. the way that the metro is designed the dash area doesn't get very much for air movement which could be youre problem. you can try and see if there is any way you can lose some excess junk around the stereo that might help.

you could always put a small computer fan in there positioned to hit the heatsink of the head unit (usually the "finned" part in the back). Install that in there with a switch and just turn it on before enough time elapses for the radio to shut off (you probably know an appx. time for this already).

The fans are cheap and easy to find (Radio shack, maybe $5...they have a few different 12V DC ones there) and so are switches (anywhere from $2 - $10 depending on how fancy you want to get). So, for about $10, you have a little project to solve your overheating situation.
