Does a non-cruise control car have the workings installed?
I just replaced the light switch on my daughter's '96 Sunfire because of recurring headlight problems. The car doesn't have Cruise Control, but I'm wondering if the set-up for the actual Cruise system is there, minus the stalk switch.
Has anyone tried this; putting a cruise control stalk on a non-cruise control stalked car? (I might go to the local bone-yard to pick up a switch just to try it) |

If the cruise control workings were installed, you would have paid for it, and it would have controls located at the end of the turn signal stalk. A new stalk won't do a thing if the car dosent have cruise.

I think the computer and wiring might be there, but the stalk and module assembly are not, including the wiring in the steering column.

yeah i got a 91 sunbird and have been lookng into that. I think you have to get the modual motor to get it to hold the trottal into the same place. just look under the hood and maybe they might have a box up on top of the engine that might have the throtle cable running into it and running out. I only know this from my dads 98 camery so i dont know if they are the same on all cars. the switch would be like batman siad. if you wasnt to buy a new one i would go to napa if yoou want. but it costs like 70$ so i would go with wut you said just go to the Junkyard and if your car doesnt have the modual you could get that their too.

Re: Does a non-cruise control car have the workings installed?
You could fish the computer and modules out of a junker but be careful, these engines are so wrapped up in digital code The car dosen't know which end is up. You might end up frying the system, but I don't know how the two systems interact. You might only need to plug it in, of you might need to splice wires, and solder cables to circut boards. I would reccomend checking out two similar cars one with and one without to see what will match and what won't.
Good Luck
