What would you do?
Ok currently i have a camaro but plan to sell it to get a del sol. The one i found in my price range is an "S". I plan on supercharging it, getting header and exaughst. I also plan on raising the psi to give it more boost. the stock engine has about 150k on it. If at all possible i would really like to add nitrouse to it so if i needed it i would have the extra power... but i dont think the engine will take it. It will be next summer at best before everything is done to it. I was just hoping to get some insight on it and if i would be better off to go n/a and just do all motor stuff. If i supercharge it can i add other things to it? Thanks

Re: What would you do?
your welcome. If you haven't noticed, this isn't the fastest moving forum on the web, so hold your horses. As for the S model you plan on buying. Yeah you can supercharge it for 3 grand (after you add in headers, exhaust, fuel managment, etc.), and it will be fun. But, a B16 swap would still be faster, and if done right, about the same price. The S model engine is not one i would like to start putting money into. If you have to stick with that engine, at least turbo it. You would be much happier with the power vs the SC.

Re: What would you do?
i thought the supercharger gave the same amount of power that a turbo gives but the supercharger is always boosting. not needing to spool up? the b16 stock would be slower rite?

Re: What would you do?
wrong. The B16 will still produce more power, even after you put on say...a base JR supercharger or a small turbo kit @ 7 PSI. (i assume that is what you are looking at). Yes the JR will be boosting as soon as you turn the key, but a small turbo nowadays hardly even has any noticable lag. And a supercharger may or may not produce the same as a turbo. It all depends on the amount of PSI you are pushing and yout tuning. I will tell you that a JR charger @ 12 PSI will not make as much HP as a turbo at 12 PSI, simply due to heat soak and parasitic drag. If you want something easy to install and forget, go for the supercharger, but if you want something that has the ability to make more power and is more adjustable power wise, go turbo.

Re: What would you do?
a b16 is make as much power as the d16 that has a blower on it??? i dont have the money for the b16. I will later. but that means i cant get the turbo.... if i got a turbo what would i need to adjust the psi to the maximum safe psi? What can be added after the turbo?

If you really want to have a good setup, its going to cost you. You probably need to have a spare car or a few weeks free as well as a couple grand to use for the Del Sol. You can peice together a turbo kit for a grand or two. If you want to run more than 7-8 psi then you will need more engine work including pistons, rods, rings, depending on the boost. Things will come up and it will get more and more expensive. You will also need a fuel management system, and it will have to be tuned properly on a dyno. Theres alot to it.

Re: What would you do?
If you can afford a turbo, than you can afford a B16. Yes your D16 can make more power than a B16 with a turbo, but it is going to take more money to surpass the B16's power, than just buying a B16. Look at it this way. You can put in a b16 and put about 140 give or take to the wheels stock. or you can spend the same amount as the B16 on a turbo setup, and put about the same to the wheels on a D16. All i am saying is that in the long run, the B16 has much more potential. not to say that a D16 can't make power, as i have seen them well surpass the 300 WHP mark, but that takes a lot of money and a lot of tuning.

Re: What would you do?
no no andrew.. let him go ahead and supercharge that D15... People have to learn the hard way... hell I thought I was hot shit in high school with a turbo D15 that ran a 14.9. Let him do it!
![]() Then let him get spanked by a N/A, more or less stock GSR.

Re: What would you do?
stock? about a 15.5-16.0, depending on how good of a driver you are. 80% of drag racing is the driver... how quick can you jump off the line?

Re: What would you do?
Takes lots of practice to become a proficient driver at the track. Biggest thing is to not be in a rush and do it right. It takes time and money to build a fast and reliable car.
