Power Steering Leak

I just picked up my 97 Spyder GS-T on a saturday, on sunday night, theres a huge puddle of yellow liquid on my garage floor. I check my fluids and my power steerings extremely low. Is there a common place power steering leaks? the water pumps fine, i just need to know if this is a common problems with DSMs. I had a 3rd gen eclipse and it never happened. Thanx

Re: Power Steering Leak

If it came from or around the passenger front wheel (around that area) then it might just be the power steering resevoir!

Try refilling it and see if it leaks again!

Duct tape fixes everything!! J/P no but it really does!

Re: Power Steering Leak

That means there's an internal failure in the rack and it needs to be replaced.

Re: Power Steering Leak

Yea if the rack and pinion are ahot that suks! If you bought the car with no power steering, that puts excess strain on the rack and thats probably what broke it!

Re: Power Steering Leak

Think about it, if the internal pump or gear is broken, what good is an external leak stopper going to do? Your best bet is to play it safe and replace the rack, fork out the money and pay for it cause you should only need to replace it once, and if it fails within 12 months 12,000 miles you'll get free parts and labor anyway.

Re: Power Steering Leak

Yea, definitly your best bet would be to just fork out the money, and pay once, and get it right the first time. Good luck.

P.S. That is just one MINOR setback, that is no reason at all to want to sell your car. Keep at it!!

Re: Power Steering Leak

make sure it's the actual rack first though, I replaced some of the lines and that stopped the leak.

I am pretty sure its the rack, considering its comming ffrom that boot thats on the left hand side of the rack. Do you think it could be anything else?

Make sure if you are just letting your car sit right now to cover the alternator.
