short somewhere

my wife started the car drove for about 1 mile then all the idiot lights came on then all went out......NO POWER TO THE CAR AT ALL....first thought alternator went out and car ran on remainder batt power....but when i hooked up cables abnormal sparks......disconnected battery leads and read .2 ohms from + cable to good ground on fire wall...not good.....towed it home checked wires at alternator and starter looked good disconnected starter lead and my ohm prob is gone at battery.......COULD THE STARTER BE SHORTING INTERNALLY AND DRAINING BATT??????

also when i hook up cables i cant get any lights with the batt connected if i disconnect batt and hook up cables lights come on

Sounds to me like your battery is shorted internally. Have it tested or swap a known good battery to find out.
