Idle question

My '96 Lx used to idle so low that it would shake at stoplights, especially with a/c on. so today i increased the idle to where it was smooth. with a/c on it idles at 1,000 rpm. pretty high, but anything lower and the car is just annoying to sit in, just vibrates and rattles. with a/c off it goes to about 1100. when i drive it, it almost accelerates by itself due to the high idle. is this bad for my engine, beside the fact it wastes gas? id rather have a smooth idle then have my car shaking all the time.

Re: Idle question

having a high idle isnt bad for your engine (warms it up faster actually) but it will use A LOT more gas. As for the low idle problem, it might be a vacum leak or a timing problem
