Thumbs up 99gmc computer not sending emission info

I have a 99 gmc suburban that did not pass the emission inspection because the on board computer is not sending any info. they recommend that I drive it for 2-3weeks to reset it, but I work from home and do not drive many miles per week and I need to get the sticker to renew by tag by the 19th of aug. Does anyone know approx how many miles it will take to reset the computer ?? thanks

If they were checking at the DLC, there could have just been a bad connection with their tool.
There is no reset for the PCM and the PCM should not lose data unles there is a communication problem with the actual module itself.
I would have someone with a bi-directional scan tool check the module communication

Re: 99gmc computer not sending emission info

Why not get your own OBDII decoder, check out:
http://obddiagnostics.com/index.html
or
http://www.scantool.net/
Both are under $100, and hook up to a cheap used laptop, PC or even a PDA. The Scantool decoder is only for specific manufactures, GM, Ford, Chrysler since each has a different way of sending the same information.
The obddiagnostics decoder will work on all of the OBDII cars. With this you can read all of the sensor info, the codes and it can be used to reset codes to see if they reoccure.
If the hundred bucks is too steep remember it's usually over that much just to have the dealer tell your that your gas cap is loose. Get together with some buds and chip in to buy one, eventually you'll all use it and be glad you had it.
See ya
