Few Minor questions from an inexperienced female

I with in the last 6 months purchased a 91 pontiac Sunbird Convertible. The car only had 129,500 when I bought it. Also It is a 2.0 I believe. The car seems to have a loud exaust, I had to replace the muffler soon after purchase, and that didnt seem to dampen the sound. Any Idea's what I can do to make it run more quiet?

Also there seems to be an adjustment problem with the transmission. When you are going down the road at a steady speed the car will slowly downshift itself. Not to the point of reving up or anything like that. Going up hills the transmission seems to struggle. Is there anything that I might be able to do to fix that problem? At the same time, the check engine light seems to pop on and off. mostly when you try to excelerate quickly or your going up a hill. Is there a sensor that may needed to be cleaned or changed to keep that from comming on and off like that?

Anyone with a solution to this next one will be a miracle to me. I bought the car in the winter time, and let my fiance take it to work one night. Sometimes common sense doesn't exist in his head. He was brushing snow off the car and with out thinking tried to scrape ice off the back window in turn digging a big > in the window cracking it. Pontiac discontinued making the back windows for the convertible and no one seems to know where I may be abled to find a replacement that will fit. Or Even a Kit so that I may cut the old window out and glue another in.

Any help with any of these issues would be very much appreciated. I have a new baby comming and would like to make this car as tip top as I can. thank you

Megan

Have you noticed any other problems while driving it??? Like, excessive heat, lack of power, strange smell.

I had a Catylic convertor go out once, and the beginnig symptoms were loud noise (even with a good muffler), the intermittant check engine light. Then it'd start to loose power, I'd be able to get to 60... but weather I just had the pedal a quarter way down, or all the way it wouldn't go any faster. My car was a 4sp, so I don't know if that'd cause any weird transmission symptoms... but I wouldn't put it past it.

You can allways have the computer scanned to see what code is being set, that'll give us a place to start. I'm betting a code 13 for the oxygen sensor. Let us know for sure though.

Good Luck.

come to think of it.

Now that I stop and think about it the car does seem to lack a bit of power, but where I have always owned used cars I tend to be a bit more gentle with them so I didnt overly notice until now. occasional strange smell also but I have an idea as to what that is already, While I was adding coolant I noticed an oil leak started in one of the hoses, it is so small that I can barely tell but the oil level seems to be around the same when I check it so I have delayed on fixing it. Ill take my chances and take it to auto zone and have it hooked up to the computer to see whats up. Thank you for your help I appreciate it. I will let you know what happens from here on out.
