Car wont start, dead as a doorknob.

I tried jump starting the car today but nothing trys to turn on.. no lights come on.. nothing clicks..N0thIng. This is just a battery related problem right or could it be something else?

N just to throw in something here while im at it. I was in my Auto Tech class today and my teach said rotary engines are crappy because they dont completely use up the fuel..or something. That true?

Tell your instructor that hes quite an idiot. Rotoary engines have some of the best power per volume of fuel out there.

I can get 400kms out of a 52 liter tank in my TII. And thats making over 400whp at that. So tell your instructor to stop imposing his own personal (un-educated) opinions on others and provide concreat fact on what hes talking about.

From my experance high school tech teachers know jack squat about cars. They just teach you oil changes and brake work. The BASIC stuff that my gf can do.

It def sounds like a battery problem, if i was u i would get a Volts guage to make sure that your battery is shot. Also check your terminals and clean them to make sure...

r0fl really? wow.. guess hes not that big of a "gearhead" as he claims to be. Also someone in class mentioned that if you get these really expensive spark plugs you'll gain some horsepower but then the teach said that you are just wasting money and it doesnt make a difference.. COuple guys laughed their ass off silently cause Im pretty sure they thought he was totally wrong. But eh..whats really the truth?

Also I took my batt to a nearby shop to get it recharged once that was done I put it back in the car. Tried to start it..now, there was the beeping sound but thats about it. Nothing would crank at all..I had the car towed to the Mazda dealership today. Since theres apparently a coolant leak I'll let them handle that and figure out why the car doesnt start up.

really expensive spark plugs dont make much of a difference.
Whoes right, well best i can do for you is direct you to your local library and have a read through books on the rotary engine. Then ask your teacher some intresting questions, see if hes as smart as he thinks he is.

But from the sounds of it, hes just another high school shop teacher who knows very little and loves V8's.

Well I just got a call from the Mazda dealership. The car starts up now since the master fuse was replaced.. but ay theres the bad news..the the engine had low compression.. x_X coolant leak thats for sure cause it even comes out the tail pipe -_- The car has even overheated before because of air pockets in the coolant.. ay, the car is just so messed up I dont even think its relaible anymore. -cries-

yeah just to add my commentary... ride in a decent turboII rx7 ... you'll be quite amazed what two rotors and 6psi of boost will do for your pulse and blood pressure if you're not used to the feeling... lol

no im willing to bet that ur prolem with the no start, was actually ur igntion switch, i had the same prolem... but dude dont give up on ur 7...man ive already been through so much shit with mine, i wanted to give it back....but juss the few lil rides i got in it....I CANT GIVE IT BACK, its part of me now...id take a bullet for that car... but dont think bad. id let the car take the bullet for my g/f... lol but between the bullet n the car...id jump in front.. there great fuckin cars, juss a headache sometimes speacialy when ur like me and jake (tubjub) and can only go from ppl on here say and things that are obvious....juss dont give up... <---- words i heard from jake, now im passin them on to you...its worth it dude..keep goin

Well for this 7 in particular I am giving up on. Its just not even worth getting a rebuild as there will be other problems..So im selling it for 600$ for someone else to have and restore. I'm gonna look for another RX-7.. no way am I giving up on rotary power. The RX-7 was the first car ever for me to drive and I loved it and was facinated about the engine. I was just careless with the car.. but next time I'll be sure to give it the proper care.

funny thing i had the same problem with the main fuse (but my lights worked)

Im located in Sugar Land,TX just Southwest of Houston. The car is a 1986 SE/ 5-speed.
I wouldnt say the body is totally clean but its fairly decent.
I only have 1 pic of it from before. I might take more later.

So, I havent really lurked around in a while but one thing I will comment on is this:

As far as the RX-7 being somewhat of a fuel inefficient vehicle, there is a measure of truth to that. Reason being is that due to the "bathtub" design of the combustion chamber, some unburnt fuel DOES tend to lurk around the edges. Its just part of the design. Also, the ECU for that era was painfully inadequate for that motor. Go standalone and watch fuel economy skyrocket.
