What kind of engine do i have?

Well, i recently aquierd a 92 ford mustang. I havent done any work to it myself, and have little to no info on what the car has had done to it. I know it has had many aftermarket parts put in it, such as holly carbs, a herst (sp?) shifter, new tacometer, ect, and i know it dosent have a stock engine in it.

Being that I know so little about cars, this is porbably a very easy question, i wanna find out what type/size of ngine it has in it. I know enough to know it has a v8, but im not sure how to tell if its a big/small block, 350 425 or whatever.

So in a nut shell, just looking to find out mor einfo about my car, being that it was given to me as an inherentence when my uncle passed away, i have no one to ask specifics about it with.

I know was either setup for racing, or used for racing, so im sure it must have a nice engine in it. Also, it has a rollcage installed and its an automatic transmission.

Thanks in advanced for all the help guys

Some extra things I forgot to mention, its setup so you have 2 switches inside the car to turn on the fuel pumps and another for i guess the fan for the fuel pumps. Also it gets about 10-11 miles per gallon of gas.

If your motor is carburated, you don't have the stock 5.0 (302) V8. There is really no way anyone can tell you what you have without looking at it since it's been modded. Sorry.

I know it isnt stock, cause it came with a 4 banger stock, and i cant ask the guy who i got it from cause he isnt here anymore.... so i was thinking there had to be some sort of marks or something on the engine itself, like a serial number or something that could help me, but i dont know if or where that would be located.

I also dont know how to tell the diffrence between a big block and a small block.

Im just trying to narrow down what exactly it is so if i ever decide to sell/upgrade i have some info.

Im not really looking for if its a 302, 350 or 450 or w/e, although that would be nice, i wanna find more if its a big block or small block and then ill go from there

Thanks for the help so far guys

There should be a casting numer somewhere on the engine block. On Chevys, it is on the front just before the passenger side cylinder head. Sorry, I have no clue on a Ford. Check out this website when you find it. http://www.aacncclub.com or they may be able to tell you where it is.

Re: What kind of engine do i have?

if it has a roll cage in it then its probaly a drag car. and if its a drag car then theres no tellin wat it has in it. and they only had 302's v8's in a 92 and they ford never made a 350 or a 425.

Yea i figured it was used for drag since it has a huge aftermarket techometer, and i know it originally had the 4 cyclinder in it.

So i guess the fact that its a mustang has no effect, so about these casting numbers, ill look fr them.

I wish i had a digital camera!

Re: What kind of engine do i have?

they made a clevland and winser with the 351. they also got a 400. i think its got a minimum of a 351 if its a drag car, dont really think anyone would make a drag car out of a 289.
