Good mods?

Hey guys,

I've got an 89 gt and am thinking about adding a couple more mods in the next while. As of right now i have cold air, off-road h-pipe, 3.55 gears, pullies, and off course flowmaster mufflers. Not a lot, but i'm working on it. I'm thinking about getting cam work and getting aftermarket headers. Do these sound like good mods for where i'm at right now? and what manufacturers would you most recommend? what types of gains would i be looking at from cam work and is it worth it.

no those arent really good mods right now. but will add some sound to ur exhaust if thats wat u want. i would get a comp. mod a 70 mm. throttle body and a ported upper intake. im not sure about the cam because with some cars it is worth it and for some it isent and im not sure bout a 89 gt

Save yourself the trouble of a cam right now with your stock heads and intake. Get some 1.7 rr's and some lt's and call it a day. Heads, cam, and intake will follow that depending on budget. But dont forget about your fuel system and ignition ect. The more mods you do the more power you gain but if you run out of fuel or spark you could lean out and hurt your motor or wash your cylinder walls with fuel. Either way you could be looking at a rebuild. Set aside a goal hp and a budget that you can handle and go from there.

does anybody know if it's worth modifying the stock heads or would it be better to buy aftermarket.

You're best off with aftermarket heads. Even a good set of GT-40p's off an explorer is far better than home-ported E7's, or even E7's with some home porting and big valves. Save up for some Edelbrock, Twisted Wedge, or AFR aluminums.

By LT's he means Long-tube headers. Foxbody's are pretty easy to work with for LT's, and there are several on the market.

My luck has been that I run into to many problems with stock heads to waist my time & money with them. I've had cracked heads, push in studs push out, crappy port work done by what was supposed to be an awsome machine shop..and the list goes on. Save some time and spend just a little more cash and get yourself something to be proud of. Most box stock aluminum heads are worlds better than ported stock heads.
