Power Sterring Pump Noise - help

Hi all

What can cause a power steering pump on a 1987 V6 T-Bird to make the whining noise like it was low on fluid, even though the fluid level is good?

The Rack and Pinion unit was changed prior to me buying the car.

Thanks

Brian

Re: Power Sterring Pump Noise - help

Ford powersteering pumps are notorious for buzzing. One simple but not always effective way to purge air is to start the engine and continuously turning the steering wheel from lock to lock.

was pump changed when rack was changed cause reuilt ford pumps need to break in longer than most. my f150 whined bad for about 1100 miles and i am a mechanic and see this quite a bit with aftermarket rebuilt ford pumps.....by design the pump is self priming and self bleeding
