PROBLEM: Driving (25mph) and engine shuts off - will NOT restart!!!

Hey guys... First of all GREAT website... I've been browsing for a few weeks and I've learned a lot. I got a little something that baffled me tho.

Today, my roomate was driving to work in his 94 Eagle Talon. He got about 1/2 mile from our place, driving about 25mph before his engine cut out completely. He said it didnt "sputter" like it was out of fuel, but instead just CUT - like someone pulled the plug out of an outlet. Upon trying to restart the engine, the vehicle won't turn over. It tries - so the starter, battery, and connections are good. I'm thinking something along the lines of the fuel pump? Any suggestions? Thanks a ton!

Pull out one of the spark plugs if you smell gas it's not the fp. Check the plugs and wires, if they're good check the coils.

Unfortunately, I can smell gas after taking the spark plugs out. I also checked to ensure all plugs were in securely. Which coils should I check?

Stupid question, but are you sure the alternator belt didnt break? Sometimes its the simple stuff that confuses us the most.

Thanks for replying Wendy! Yeah, I checked all the belts and connections and they're all solid. In doing a diagnosis - I discovered that there is no spark or fuel being delivered. I'm thinking the problem might be:
1) The (secondary) Ignition Coil
2) The ECU (Electronic Control Module)
3) The Fuel Filter

Anyone know of a way I can test these parts to see if they're bad? Again, its a 1994 with a 1.8L Engine.

I'm kind of with Wendy on this one... Perhaps it's the Alternator itself, and not the belt? Maybe you grounded out somewhere?
