its alive... and died.... and is alive again
well i swapped the 89 maxima motor in my turbo 84.
swaped oil pump, inj., and the exhaust manifold. and put some new rod bearings in it started it up yesterday and it ran for like 10 seconds i heard some clanking and it stalled got out to check and somehow the dang cam end exploded well i was bound and determined and struggled all day yesterday got the heads bolted on (off my 84) and almost finished had to work today so i had to work on it for my lunch and after work but i got it all glued back together and added the magic green water elixer and i have a leaking radiator after all that but i decied it is all good as long as its topped off started it for about 2 minutes at a high idle and shut it off checked for more leaks and didnt see any so i started it and let it run for a good 5 minutes at approx 1800 rpms no more addition leaks, good oil pressure and with no exhaust that turbo wistles even at 1800 so my frankenstein 300 lives again so this week ill be bolting the driveshaft back in and changing the tranny and rear axel fluids and hopefully fixin the leaking radiator i got some freinds that would love to see my shitty time slips befopre i tune it all up like a rocket you know so wish me luck its off to the workshop i go(actually its time for a shower and bed i gotta work in the am) |

Re: its alive... and died.... and is alive again
So you put the 84T engine in the maxima? Or did you put the maxima engine in the 84T? Either way...I wouldn't think this would be easy to do cuz the max is fwd and the Z is rwd.
Either way, good luck, man.

i think he put the maxima motor into his Z31. but that doesnt seem like that would be an easy job. how long have you been working on it?

Turbo maxima motor?
Sounds pretty tough either way. Fwd to rwd or rwd to fwd is never easy. Good luck, man.

Re: its alive... and died.... and is alive again
I'd say he would keep his existing gearbox and use the turbo from his VG30ET engine. Also, i thought those older maxima's were rwd?

Re: its alive... and died.... and is alive again
i know the older maxima sitting in our automotive shop has a VG30E in it and it is fwd. it was funny, a guy brought his Z31 in to the shop, and i told him that maxima over there has the same motor that he has and he freaked out on me, lol, that was so funny. he couldnt believe a sedan had the same motor as him. i tried telling him that they are tuned different and his puts out more power, but he still couldnt believe it.

That engine was also used in some truck model(s), I believe.

Re: its alive... and died.... and is alive again
yes the vg30e block was put in many vehicles and yes the motor came out off a max andf is in the 300 actually quite simple took probably 1 week of every day but i couldnt do that and while it was out i droped in some new bearings so far so good
the leak wasnt there the next day sorta confusing it was trickleing from the center of the radiator and isnt now..... and im told this is the w block and is better suited for performance as i stated i alsdo had to swap the heads(end of a cam exploded and the gear went a sailing all i got left to do is find another electric fan (mine seems to have wondered off somewhere) and bolt on some type of exhaust (probably a few 3" elbows and a straight pipe again) cant wait to take it out on the road again not sure how mnuch boost i can run anybody able to locate the final compresion ratio equation there? well now that im at final stages of this project i guess maybe its time to pull the old 280 in for a make over i have to see which heads and blocks i got and if my pistons in my turbo are any good bu at any rate that just needs a motor and probably a clutch between my 2 280s and i got a boosted 280 with the old style block and pistons witht the new lower comp. ratio heads aught to be just the right level of comp. to make 10 psi do alot of hp |

Re: its alive... and died.... and is alive again
well i found my elec. fan and got the 3" elbow to about a 9" peice to a 3" muffler and its quite enough for me to gewt away with no i gotta vent it out the side somehow......... hmmmm sounds sweet as hell.. but i think i need a new fuel pressure regulator mine seems to be spurting fuel out of the vacumm line once in a while(2 or 3 drops a rev)
boost is still on the gauge at approx 3000 rpms while sittin still i can get it to show art approx 1800 (mashed from an idle) but it crackles and pops alot at that timing set so im currently running stock 20 degrees till i pull it on the road and get it set... going to run the stock boost tiill i drive it and sigh and turn the boost up.... pop goes the weezle i know i will...... i wonder if it will hold ill keep it low like say 8 psi till iu find some goof ball who will put up some dough for a race.... 500 aught to coiver the gasket set and 2 weeks down time for all new bearings and some perf. mods or atleast the cams and ill splurge for the springs lifters gaskets and fresh belt and about 150 worth of fluid and plugs..... anybody try denso (iridium plugs)? im told they burn too hot.... cooler set? oh and its a tin can with plastic buckets and everything you can imagine stripoped from everywhere you can think of.... |
