Three front end issues

My 98 Grand Voyager has been making a noise when turning. You notice most when driving around a parking lot. As you turn the wheel there is a noise that is a bit hard to describe. It is sounds like a old door being opened slowly. The noise seems to match the speed that I turn the wheel. I suspect struts but I'd like a second opinion.

I have also noticed a vibration in the wheels as I brake. I haven't looked yet but it feels like a rotor needs to be replaced or turned, but I had new ones installed 8 months ago. What else could it be?

Once in a while (once a month or once every other month) the wheel will shimmey while I drive. It happens after I accelerate to pull on to a highway. It becomes noticeable at 45 or 50 mph. It last a few minutes and all goes back to normal. A friend I spoke to suggested tie rod ends. Once again I'd like a second opinion.

Re: Three front end issues

Sounds like a classic symptom of CV joints failing. Look under the car at the CV Joint boots and see if they are torn, have holes, or in any way damaged. If the boot is damaged, the joint is most likely history and that is typically the number one reason for failure. It does not take long with the joint exposed (dirt+moisture in/lubricant out) for them to fail.

Re: Three front end issues

Sounds like possible multiple problems.
I had a creaking sound from my '00 GC, turned out to be drivers side top strut bearing. Had the same shake when breaking, about 6 months after brake job. The brake shop decided to none OEM rotors and they failed because of the Semi-Metallic pads.
They replaced and rotors with OEM's and everything was great until someone decided that RED meant go and that the Van in the intersection was fair game. Ever see a 'CG after being hit be '83 T-bird doing 50mph?

No and I hope I never do! I hope you didn't get hurt to bad.

From what I could tell my CV joint boots look ok. I replaced a drivers side CV joint in a K car about 10 years ago. IF needed is that something I can do on my own or will the Grand Voyager have to go into the shop?
