My '95 Buick Regal with the 3800l eng has an intermittent battery light coming on. I put a tester on the battery and it only had 115 CCA so I replaced it. The battery light continued to come on intermittently. I put a multimeter on the battery with the engine running and the readings were erratic, but with the battery light on it was reading 16+ volts.
Is it a safe assumption that the alternator is overcharging and requires replacing? THANK YOU! Chris |

Re: alternator??
Sounds like the regulator inside the alternator is bad. If it is charging 16V, you better do somthing quick or else you will have a host of electrical problems.

Re: alternator??
16 volts is too much...more common when the alternator goes bad they undercharge...i had a car that overcharged...i noticed it because , at night, the dash lights looked like Times Square......
