Front Door Hinge---Pin worn out

The bottom pin on my drivers door is worn out and needs replacing. It seems like a roll pin to me and was wondering the best way to replace it.

--get pin from dealer and pay 15 bucks
-tap out old pin and install a simple bolt set up

What is the best way to get this out?

Re: Front Door Hinge---Pin worn out

I used an aftermarket kit.
It came with a new pin and new bushings. You tap in the bushings first because they fill in the wear and slop in the steel hinge itself. If you knock in a new pin only the wear of the steel may still make the hinge seem loose.

I looked high and low for a aftermaket kit for my Cherokee and JGC and coulnt find any had to go to the Dealer $26 for one door. They arent always easy to get out especialy the Cherokee. Had to use a small grinder and grind the top of the pin down so I could pound it out. The pins only come out one way from the bottom unless you grind the top. I had to take the door off one I did it to get easier access. They will come out.

I have looked high and low for the door hinge pins. They all tell me that there is not one I can buy. I have the 99 Cherekee and the dealer said I had to buy new hinges for $60 each. Not in this lifetime. Why is every part for this Jeep $60?

So where else can I try, I tried NAPA, Advance, Auto Zone, dealer...

I ended up getting the pin and bushing from the dealer for 12.00 However I had no luck getting the old pin out of the door so after much cursing I used my dremel and just got rid of the top section of the lower hinge. Not pretty or perfect, but for now much better than a loose door slopping around.

So what year is your Jeep? Mine is a 99 and the pins are flat on both ends. They say that the pins can't be removed and replaced, Why the heck not??? It looks like you would just grind, cut, gnaw...
