way too much play in shifter PLEASE HELP!

i just recently had my 95 civic ex changed over from automatic to 5 speed. and i love it dont get me wrong. but i have a huge complaint/problem and i need some help. i installed a short throw shifter nothin too fancy or nice but it gets the job done however when in neutral the play is not normal it goes left to right probably 2-3 inches either way well i can deal with that but when its in gear it does the same thing! which gets very confusing sometimes tryin to find gears and not to mention 5th gear is not just shifting up and over from 4th its more like shifting into neutral and then forcing it as far to the right as possible and then it goes in if u find the gear. it doesnt jump out of gear or anything like that its just with that much play in the shifter it becomes very hard and not fun for a daily driver. any help would be greatly appreciated thanx

well al i know is that i have the stock shifter n wethers its in 1st gear or neutral it moves a couple insches on both sides..it is confusing at first but after a while you get used to it..as for a short throw..the side movements i think are suppose to be th same as stock..only front and back are obviously shorter

if u go under ur car and check out the shift linkage ull find a little pin right b4 u get to the tranny, when u get a swap u have to take the pin out or its really aggravating. whoever did the swap probably didnt put the pin back in so they mightve used a bolt or a peice of wire, this makes the shifter really loose, check it out, make sure its not wire bc its might break going down the road and ull have even more probs, hope this help.
