Water pump replacement

I have a 97 Gr Voyager with 3.0L engine. How tough of a job is it to replaced the water pump on this? What would it cost to get done at a garage?

Re: Water pump replacement

I have a 96 w/ 3.0 also. Yesterday the van overheated but I am going to try the simple thing first and replace the thermostat and see if that is the problem. If this does not do the fix I will be tearing into that front half of the engine and replace the water pump and timing belt also since it will be opened up. I can't tell you the procedure but an $11.95 investment into a chiltons or the local library has these manuals and you can photo copy them for free!

Well, I took my '97 Gr Voyager in to have the water leak repaired. The bill came to $675!! $300 labor plus $164 for the water pump housing, plus the normally replaced water pump ($70), plus new timing belt $90, plus oil seal ($10), plus anti-freeze plus tax! The water pump housing had a hole eroded in it and had to be replaced. The timing belt and oil seal were extras but when you have it all apart, it makes sense to replace these also. Took it on a 300 mile trip in 100 degree Texas this weekend (I was asking for trouble) but had no problems. Whewww!!!
