passat

This one will only have 4 posts.

Here's 1.

I'm using a much rougher pencil base this time. Normally I would transfer it one more time but I learned alot on the last one and it's kinda driving the direction on this one.

One significant time saving change is the fact that I used a red verithin and colored my highlight and shadow lines prior to the scan. This was the drawing will serve as a template for all layers.

I put my drawing on layer 1 and lock it and add 2 layers above it. One layer is for the lineart base and the other highlights and shadows.

-Lemorris

p.s. I left that long line through the tire in on purpose. Anybody know how I'm gonna get that out so it doesn't interfere with the tire?

Re: passat

Looks great, and I learn so much when you post these "step-by-step" threads.

(Still haven't figured out Jeri C's tutorials, your posts just seem easier to follow.)

back at it

gonna finish the lineart and hilite Illy part tonight. Start rendering tomorrow.

Oh...I used the scissors (sp) tool to cut the wheel well line at the points where the rubber hits.

I actually rarely if ever used the scissors tool until I saw it in Jeri's Newbie tutorial. That's right...the newbie tutorial. I read lots on all of this stuff and I caught that gem in her newb tute and that tip alone is worth the cost for me. You can always learn more..even an old dog like me.

Re: passat

Hi Lemorris,

Ok I'm a lil confused. You are doing the line drawing in PS? I thought Jeri starts out w/ Ill for line drawings. I am going to have to get back to Jeri's tuts.

Anyway who cares about that
That ride is tight.

It is hard learning how to use PS for the channel technique. I guess like anything it takes practice.

I will go ahead and post my progress on the cobra.

Take care

Re: passat

thia lineart is in Illustrator. But you can do vector in PS too. I like Illustrator better for it though.

Re: passat

Interesting idea on making cuts, I usually just spend the time to add and adjust nodes on the body lines to fit the tire outline.

Re: passat

since I don't need it to be a "fillable" shape because i render in Photoshop, having closed paths doesn't matter. Allows you to draw it much faster.

When you import your file into Photoshop it rasterizes your lines and creates closed areas that you can use the magic wand to select and fill in.

Re: passat

That's my challenge, I still do all of the work (lines and color) as a vector, so I usually need closed paths.
Trying to gain PS skills.

Thanks for the kind words. It's still a learning experience for me. To answer Alex..."YES" to both programs. Lineart in Illustrator, rendering in Photoshop

Here's the latest:

I decided to go with the Beige base as the Black was giving me fits..lolol

oh well maybe Jeri will come to my rescue again.
