95 2.3 dohc engine repair or replace

I just bought a 95 Sunfire GT with a 2.3 DOHC engine in it, well part of the engine anyway.
This is a project I bought for my 17 year old son to fix up. The rest of the car is great for the age.

It has a bad rod and a head with cracks in 3 out of 4 cyclinders plus who knows what else in the motor. So do I fix this one, replace it with a good 2.3 or replace it with a differant motor.

Has anyone put a 2.2 or 2.4 in place of the 2.3?

One of the thoughts if had is to buy a newer wreck with a good motor and trans and swap them over. since this would give me harness's and computer ..ect....

Any thoughts on this would be great or derction to some old posts that might cover this

Thanks

Re: 95 2.3 dohc engine repair or replace

2.3L HO swap, bolts in, AT LEAST 175 CHP and with proper MINOR mods you can get 170FWHP, like me (LOL).

www.mantapart.com <- they have a cam tower for the 95 PS pump with a modified/updated HO cam for the pump as well. you can swap over just about everything from the 95, sensor wise, but mantapart gives you everything in the NEW CRATE motor (upgrades head gasket to end that problem).
the swap takes a weekend if you got the proper tools. get the chip, you WONT regret it.

I'm getting ready for the 2.6L stroker upgrade and a turbo for my 2.3L HO, can we say 300FWHP (WHOO HOOO).

Any questions about the quad, let me know, I just got a replacement lower mount for mine, since the one I had wouldn't hold my current torque.
