lost keys
My Cherokee is at the moment just sitting on the side of the road becuase i ran out of gas then lost my keys. Obviously i don't want to leave it there much longer and i dunno what to do. My first idea was to hotwire it so i could be able to drive it home but i don't know the risks i take in hotwiring it. does any one have any other ideas or could tell me the risks i take if i hot wire it just to get it home.

Its kind of hard to hot wire a Jeep with a key lock in the steering column. You either have to call a lock smith or take the door panel off and take off the door lock and take it to a lock smith. I dont know what year it is but most Jeeps have the same door key as Ignition. Only other way is break the Ignition Lock so you can access the rod that runs to the Ignition Switch, you usally can stick ascrew driver in the hole to turn the rod,but the you will have to go and take your steering column apart to replace the lock. If you cant get into your jeep take a screw driver and push down on the top of the window preferbally the back window and take a 3 ft piece of thin steel and push the lock in. Just had to do it last week. In the old days when the Ingnition Locks werent in the Steering Column you ran a wire to the positive of the Battery to the positive of the coil and turned the key. Today you have to be care full you dont fry the Computer.
