Engine Flush
Has anyone used the Gunk engine flush. The place that changes my oil said they would completely drain the oil and put a new filter on, then fill it with Gunk engine flush. They then run it for a while and drain, change the filter and fill with fresh oil. It will add about $24 to the oil filter change. I have 117K on the truck and thought this may be good to do.

YOU DO NOT FILL IT WITH ENGINE FLUSH!!!! Don't EVER listen to them again because they are about to ruin your engine. If you want to use the engine flush, just before you change the oil add the bottle of engine flush to the crankcase and IDLE it for 30 minutes. Then drop your oil and add three quarts of crappy cheap oil and allow it to run for 5 minutes. Then drop all the oil and your old filter and install a good NON-FRAM oil filter and 4.5qts ONLY of a good 5w30 engine oil. I recommend Castrol GTX if you are going to be running conventional oil.

Re: Engine Flush
you can always use a pint of kerosene and add that to it and run it for a few minutes and do the same thing with flushing the oil. after you flush your engine u might find a leak due to the grudge now missing the plug of crap. i wouldn't flush your motor unless you have less then 100,000 miles on it. pull your valve covers and see if it even looks like it needs to be flushed.

Flushing your engine and having a clean and tidy lubrication system is nothing to be scared of. I have a 100,000 mile 4.3L and I flushed 3 times AND run an Auto-RX cycle and I haven't seen a drop of oil come out of anywhere. If a leak does come about (which is unlikely) it was from an area or seal that needed to be fixed anyways.

Re: Engine Flush
I have used the Gunk brand Engine flush and it worked for me. See my thread on Loud lifter knock. It is a bit long and gets side tracked, but the procedure is there.
