Re: Car not starting I unplug batery wait 60 sec it starts Help
I understand the started cranks but the engine does not fire up. Do you have the CEL light ON?
This is puzzling indeed...I just wonder what lead you the first time into disconnecting the battery...had you emptied the battery and got it recharged out of the car and then it started right away .. and then refused to start the time after... There are 2 classic problems with this engine refusing to start: Idle control valve and crank position sensor, but I cannot see the relation with unplugging the battery... what you found as a solution - although temporary, I hope, - is quite peculiar...and may be kept in the record once you have singled out the cause. Keep us posted!

what happens if you just keep cranking? Does it eventually start? if it does "I had one do that to me in the past, customer stated that if they removed batt the vehicle will then start, in this case it was the ECU" not saying is what's wrong with yours but had one like that in the past

Disconnect the battery negative terminal for 15 second and it will reset the crank sensor.... as told by the KIA service person and the KIA Hi-Scan Diagnosis equipment.... |

I have never heard of this on Kia. I dont see anything in service manuals or in the hiscan about it. Some manufacturers have a crank relearn procedure, but Kia does not. |

Are u sure? I saw the instruction from the Hi-Scan diagnosis tool and that what the mechanic does. Maybe it doesnt work for American KIA but i know it surely working for Malaysian KIA.

I believe the standards for american cars are a little different than cars in the world market. We have federal OBDII standards which make it easier for aftermarket facilities to repair vehicles without having diagnostic equipment that the dealer has. I have replaced a few crank sensors on Sportages, Rios, and the Optima had an updated crank sensor. There is no relearn procedure. I am curious about Kia products in the world market. I wish they would bring their diesel products to the states. I think they would do well here. Something I had just thought of, if his car is a California emissions model it may have the procedure that you speak of. California emission standards are much tighter than federal standards. Which makes are jobs that much more difficult.

I guess the kia for asian market are much different than the US market. I been thinking to purchase some parts for my 1997 sportage from US but now i'm not sure whether it can fit my sportage or not.
