92 Lesabre Limited...locks/trunk opening on their own?
I have bought a mint condition 92 Lesabre Limited with my daughter for a college car. This weekend after having it for 2 weeks it started opening up door locks and the trunk on its own. We would close the trunk and lock the doors.. then within about 5 mins it would open all locks on its own, and open the trunk. I this happened overnight resulting in interior lites going on and a dead battery. I noticed that the trunk opening mechanism was working when open, so I disengaged the power to that mechanism on the trunk. NO more problems. However the locks are still opening on their own. We can lock and unlock them both with the interior buttons or with the remote keyless lock/unlock.. but after 5 minutes or less the car automatically opens all the locks on its own. Not a good situation in the parking lot of a college town! Can someone help me out? If there is a simple solution... pls advise, if not just like my trunk situation should I disengage the auto lock/unlock feature, if so , how? Remove the fuse for this feature? Help me on this one... my email is [email protected]

My guess is that your remote access control (RAC) module, located under the passenger side dash, may be bad. Since this is not an inexpensive item, I would not replace it until sure. Also if replaced, your remotes would need to be reprogrammed.
If you pull the 15 Amp Blue Fuse #3 in the Relay Center under the passenger side dash to disable the power door locks, you'll also disable the illuminated entry, interior lamps, and power antenna. You could also disconnect the 6-wire connector to the Door Lock Relay Assembly (also under the passenger side dash) which will disable power to the door lock motors but the doors could still be locked and unlocked manually. |

Re: 92 Lesabre Limited...locks/trunk opening on their own?
I have had similar problems with my buiick.
Never had the doors open them selves though. Just the trunk ocassionally wants to pop on its own every mnth or so. I just unclipped the harness to the trunk connector in the trunk mechanisim from the trunk. But some nites, I would use the factory key, hit LOCK. Doors locks. Close the door, walk 2 feet then the damn trunk will pop open!!!! It only did this like 4 times, but I have noticed it. It never did it in the middle of the night! Mostly within 1 min of locking the doors. I will reallly like to get this problem fixed also. For now my trunk is still unclipped from the harness, dont want to loose my entiere system back there. |
