yeah, the sad part was it was a loner from autozone, and now i gotta pay for it, i used an airgun and it broke the head of the bolt. now, when you took yours out, was it as much of a pain in the ass as mine, cuz i've been at it with prybars, pullers etc. since 10:30 this morning.

I used the big autozone puler; however, I used a braker-bar instead of an airgun. The airgun rotates too fast and you have little control of what's going on.It's a pain in the ass, but it is what worked for me.

I guess I was lucky, mine slipped right on after I heated it up to 400 degrees for 20 minutes

Re: cant get crank pulley off of 95 neon need help ASAP!!!!!

that requires time, it was way late, and i needed to get going. we just knocked it on, and used an air gun to tighten it. not the right thing to do, but i was tired and didnt want to deal with it. besides its hard to heat somthing up without access to an oven or source of flame...though we did have a cigarette lighter. i wonder how long that would have taken?

95 Dodge Neon crank pulley

The car I'm working on is a '97 Dodge Neon.I first tried a loaner from AutoZone for
Chrysler dampers and soaked the damper with PB Blaster overnight; broke one of the finger tips off using an airgun. Then tried a 5 ton 3-jaw puller from Autozone, broke the damper. Since I don't have a torch, I called a mobile mechanic who had the exact same experience before and had to cut through it with a torch. He did this with mine, it melted the lower part of the timing cover and left marks on the crankshaft snout. I used a fine stone with a die grinder to remove the raised marks. Plan on using antiseize paste and maybe heating the new damper to install it. OTC Tools sells the correct removal and installation tools for this model. It's a specail 3-jaw puller with a long rod that installs in the puller and is inserted into the crank snout. It's not the same as the ones from Autozone. Can order from Pep Boy's. More on this after I try installing the damper.

Re: cant get crank pulley off of 95 neon need help ASAP!!!!!

i broke my first 3 jaw puller(one of the teeth) so i went to sears and bought a craftsman, with this one it gives you two differnt lengths of arms. i used a socket with ratchet and mine popped off with some pressure, but the craftsman didnt break

As I said in my first post, after breaking the first Chrysler specialty puller, I rented a standard 5 ton 3-jaw puller and the damper itself broke, not the puller. OTC Tools (www.otctools.com) makes a special 3 jaw puller that is made to fit these dampers perfectly and an installer.

Re: cant get crank pulley off of 95 neon need help ASAP!!!!!

hmmmmmmm mine wasnt as hard as it was my mistake itself was using a wo jawed puller and breaking the dampner by putting the arms on the outside edging of the pulley so i ended up buying a three jaw puller and go to the junk yard and pulling a dampener off another neon and then pullling it off it was a load of fun i must say....
