B18B1 noise

Well for about a year now my LS has had this noise. It had 96k when I bought it and has now 101k. I know the T-belt was replaced at 88k from the records that came with it. But it has a strange whinning sound. Like a blower or a buzzing sound that increases with rpms. Sort gets a higher pitch as the revs go up. Its a little louder when cold but not by much. I have checked the ps pump and alternator bearings. Replaced the ac tension pully when I first got it. I asked them at the dealer (Acura) when I first got it but they said it was normal. I just cant believe that it is. Now 5k miles later and a year of driving it and its still the same, but its starting to bug the heck out of me. No ticking at all just this steady buzzy sound. Just sounds like its from the valve cover. Both sides sound the same no more from the timingbelt area . Anyone relate to this? Or know what the heck it is? It almost sounds if it had a blower installed.

could be 500 things from the description. my first shot at it will be a valve adjustment.

Re: B18B1 noise

could there be a vacuum leak somewhere behind your manifold? it might kind of buzz if there is a hose barely on it. my timing belt tension sounded like that for a while before it froze and shreaded the belt. but like superbluecivicsi said it could be a ton of diff things.

See if the sound goes away when your turn the A/C off. What you described sounds just like a sound my teg made when I had it, and it only made the sound when the A/c was on. Never caused any problems just annoying like you said.

Re: B18B1 noise

Well it has no effect on it when the A/C is on or not. Just sounds like a beehive with a RPM dial..

Re: Re: B18B1 noise

I know you said it was recently changed, but I would check the T-Belt tension. An over tight T-Belt souds a little like a turbo spooling up. The tight belt can strss the water pump.
