Question 87 Chrysler Fifth Ave - identify the component in the picture

Can anyone identify the component (sitting on the valve cover) under the green X and whats the hose thats attached to it and the air cleaner assembly called. Thanks

The component that you have referenced is the crankcase inlet air cleaner. Some refer to it as crankcase breather. If you have not cleaned yours you might want too. Or just purchase another one. Mine was very cruddy with oil deposits due to lack of maintenance, so, I just replaced it.

If you have an old 318 and have never replaced the breather it can really make the poor mileage you already get worse, a good soaking in mineral spirits or some other solvent every other oil change will keep them pretty clean.

Thanks for the replies, although it looks like the "can" is not serviceable, I guess I can just pull it off the valve cover and try to take it apart, otherwise I'll get a new one.
