Carbon Fiber Lip

How do they hold up? Do they crack? How well can you paint them? Thanks.

Yeah, if you live in a big city, they're as good as torn up. They crack like hell and you'll have wasted $400 in a matter of months. About the paint, why would you spend money on a cf one if you're gonna paint it?

Interesting that a product made of carbon fiber would be ruined so easily. After all, carbon fiber is stronger than steel and is used on the exterior of stealth military jets! Are there different grades of the stuff or something? I was assuming that they would be very strong and resistant to damage, but I guess they are not. So, should I go with a fiberglass or urethane material lip?

My lip is going to match the rest of my car. Having an all red car and a black lip looks just as dumb as rolling around with an unpainted body kit IMO. To the untrained eye it looks as if part of your front end broke off and you were too cheap to paint it again upon replacement. I am just a clean freak, so the lip will be red. I just want the best material so that the lip lasts a good while. If paying extra for CF means a lip that lasts much longer than the others, sounds like a good idea for me. But this seems not to be the case w/ CF anyways.

Well if you want it to last, go with urethane. I know a few guys with cf lips and they pretty much went to hell with the shit roads around here. I don't think anything that doesn't give will hold up. Just plan on repainting every couple of months when it chips up.

The Wings West lip is urethane. I'm going to get the full body kit ( back/front lips and sideskirts) for $430 and it's all urethane.

When what chips up, the urethane or CF lip? Does urethane give a lot?

yes ww makes an itr lip (i saw it yesterday b/c i was looking for rear lips for my civ)

and urethane is known for its flexing thats why it is the prefered choice over fiberglass. it has enough "give"

my fiberglass fake mugen lip is ok tho b/c it has a very nice and thick coat of plastic over it

Does it really matter to you what someone with an untrained eye thinks?

That is just an additional reason. I can not stand non-matching body additions, it looks very stupid IMO. Even the site with the CF ITR lip had it painted white to match the car in the pic. CF hood, well I don't mind those. Maybe because it is such a large, central part of the car. But kits, lips, whatever.....need to match the rest of the car.
