PETA is astoundingly offensive....

I have no particular objection to vegetarianism or the desire to treat animals better, but PETA is just unbelievably offensive.

They are manipulative, irrational and thoroughly unreasonable. This is a prime example of why I find PETA so annoying and disgusting:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is reconsidering a campaign comparing images of animal abuse with those of slavery after complaints from civil rights groups and others.

PETA's "Animal Liberation" campaign included 12 panels juxtaposing pictures of black people in chains with shackled elephants and other provocative images.

The Norfolk-based group wrapped up the first leg of the tour in Washington on Thursday, visiting 17 cities before deciding to put the tour on hold.

"We're not continuing right now while we evaluate," said Dawn Carr, a PETA spokeswoman. "We're reviewing feedback we've received - most of it overwhelmingly positive and some of it quite negative."

One panel showed a black civil rights protester being beaten at a lunch counter beside a photo of a seal being bludgeoned. Another panel, titled "Hanging," showed a graphic photo of a white mob surrounding two lynched blacks, their bodies hanging from tree limbs, while a nearby picture showed a cow hanging in a slaughterhouse.

Controversy erupted Aug. 8, when the display was in New Haven, Conn.

"There was one man who began shouting that the exhibit was racist," Carr said. "Then, there was a lot of shouting."

Carr said PETA wanted to use the shocking images to prove a point: whether it's humans harming animals or each other, all point to an oppressive mind-set.

However, officials with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People aren't buying it.

"PETA operates by getting publicity any way they can," said John White, an NAACP spokesman. "They're comparing chickens to black people."

Mark Potok, director of the Intelligence Project with the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., called the exhibit "disgusting."

"Black people in America have had quite enough of being compared to animals without PETA joining in," he said.

PETA officials apologized earlier this year for a campaign that compared the suffering of Jews during the Holocaust with that of factory animals.

Dude thats fucked up, they're stupid for wanting to enforce their ideas into other people, and especially for using pictures like that is messed up.

They also did it with the jews in Auschwitz. They compared them and images of animals.

I cant stand PETA, they want no animals locked up, no pets, no restrictions on animals whatsover. They also want no animal testing, and want all medications that involve animals to be removed. That includes medications for diabetes (i think, or something along these lines) and yet one of their directors is using those same medicines. Hypocrites...

PETA...a long long time ago mind you, had its heart in the right place. animals dont deserve to be treated cruely. kicking the shit out of your dog ISNT ok. killing animals just for shits and grins isnt right (as far as im concerned. eat the meat, make something out of hide, just dont let it sit there)

but to try and enforce their will upon a population (that by no means wishes it to be forced) and trying to push a, by definition, unhealthy way of life makes me sick.

PETA puts animal rights before human rights, and as far as im concerned they can suck it.

besides, they only preach to the converted and piss everyone else off.

I agree. Their offensive campaigns nets them lots of free publicity, to attract that 1% of people who see things their way.

IMHO PETA is out to make money, first and foremost. While their organizers may care about animals, they care about money; they have found a good way to make a living by being obnoxious, preying on the soft-hearted and begging for donations to allegedly save animals.

Have you seen their website? It is awash in pleas for donations and dopey merchandise you can buy.

Actually, it sounds like an ad compaign that makes no logical sense. How you find that it could be argued that anybody could "justify" this and not be off their rocker, mystifies me.
