ipod
My cd burner is broken and i have been wanting to get an ipod and get the radio adapter (whatever it's called) so i could have like 5000 songs in my car using the ipod. My question is does the sound quality go down with that compared to listening to music on cds? If so how bad? Thanks.

as you would imagine, the higher the compression ratio the more songs you can fit on one medium and the lower the sound quality. From what I understand, unless you have a kickass sound quality tuned stytem - you won't be able to tell the difference between medium compression MP3's and CD's ...... especially once the car is moving.

Re: ipod
using any higher than 256 is assanine even for audiophiles... 128 and CD are nearly identical.

are you high? 128 is pure shit, almost unlistenable. I can hear a song that I have never heard before encoded in mp3 and instantly know if it is 128kbps or less, it sounds like ass. If you honestly think that 128 sounds identical to cd then you need to get your hearing checked immediately, I'm not joking. Anyway, use 256+ and it should sound almost identical to cds. 192 has noticeable losses, 128 is easily identifiable, and anything less than that is unlistenable. I like to use VBR that averages around 312, mp3s wind up somewhere around 6-8mb each and you can fit maybe 2-3000 on a 20gb ipod, more than enough IMO.

I was just wondering bc my brother got the fm transmittor or whatever it is that apple makes and he said it sounded like crap, maybe something was just wrong with it idk. I can get that for like 30 bucks or i can buy the interface that pioneer makes for like 75 on ebay and it goes directly from the ipod into the back of the head unit.

Re: ipod
FM transmitters normally sound pretty bad, the direct link to the pioneer is a MUCH better choice
