Engine rebuild
I want to rebuild my engine this winter/next spring and need to start getting some prices together. I want to get new pistons and rings, a new cam shaft lifters and timing set, new heads or have mine ported and polished (whihc would be better?), new intake, and then sometime before i put the engine back in i wanna throw on some headers. Is there anything else that is a must when rebuilding an engine? i already have a new water pump bought. Anything else necessary to get done? other than machine work to the block and crank.....

Well im not highly knowledgeable about engine internals and what not, so i would like to try to keep things as simple and basic as possible. I have not looked into the detailed specs on all parts yet. Im just tryin to figure what all i want/need for pricing and then ill narrow it down to what will work right.

Yah that was my basic line of thinking. My dads friend is a retired mechanic who used to build engines a nascar truck series team so i figured he could give me help if need be. I plan to take it apart then get him to help me figure what will work best together and then if i cant get it all back together right ill trailer it to a mechanic and let them get it running right.

the first thing u need is a haynes manual. the biggest mistake people make when building engines is that they just get the parts and bolt them together. definitely get this engine builder guy to help u. people forget about checking clearances like piston ring gap, crankshaft end play and so on. theres more than just bolting on heads and such. but as far as other things u need, dont reuse old valve springs. get new freeze plugs. and dont put too big of a cam in the engine. i hate that lol. hope it goes well.
