Engine Quote??
I have a 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS (350 ci re-built)
I need to know a engine price/quote on a custom vortec 383 engine/labor to do it. How much would it be to remove my original 350 re-build engine out of my chevelle, and someone build a custom 383 small block (built for performance) pushing appox. 400+hp building it, placing it in my car and set it up. Need to know appox. how much it will be to make a 383 small block engine that pushes atleast 400+hp and the labor of doing it and setting it up and everything. Because i know a great mechanic that will do everything for me including parts and labor, for $4,000 even. He builds his own engines and is a license, full-blown authorized mechanic. That was his quote for me just wondering on how much it would be if a shop did it or something so i know i'm saving some kind of money. Is it possible to get a 383 to push almost 500+ hp? Which is better 383 ci or 396 ci in this situation? Thx to all that replys to the post. I really appreciate it.

Re: Engine Quote??
It might be possible to get a 383 to 500hp, but it is definaltly not plausible. If you are looking for 400HP, my 350 with a 280 Liniti cam, roller rockers and a few other goodies dyno'ed out at 406HP. It sounds like you want as much HP as possible and if that is the case you should go with a 454. But to awnser your question a 396 would be a much better motor to modify. Spending $4000 to get a 383 to 400HP does not make alot of sence to me when you can get a stock 454 with 450HP for a good$1500 less. Use that extra money and you can get over 550HP.
