A/C Problem

It been SUPER hot this summer in central Florida and the 03 Silverado has started a new little trick. When I am driving around town, ususally in traffic at the peak of the noon time heat, the a/c will suddenly stop working, i.e. blow only hot air. If I cycle the switches or the temp bar I can usually get it to start cooling again. On a few occasions it won't start working again until I shut off the truck and restart (pit stop). When it is working it is almost cold enough to run you out of the truck. It sucks because it usually catches me when I am going to or from lunch in my business clothes!

Seems like I either read or was told about a notorious $35 sensor (hi press?, lo press?) that Silverados eat around 35K miles. I hate to take it to the dealer and get the run around so I am appealing to my brother (and sister) owners for any advice or experiences with the aforementioned a/c problem. Thanks in advance.

Re: A/C Problem

I remember reading about this problem a few weeks ago and can't remember the exact solution. Maybe do a search in this forum for A/C and see if anything informative comes up.

It would sound like either your Compressor is shutting down on High pressure, high heat, Or you could be low on gas. Sometimes to the Condensor gets too cold and freezes up then the A/C unit will go into bypass. Just as a trick try turning your temp knob up a couple of knotches and see if it does it again.

Stay cool....
