Transmission Problem
My son has a 1990 Century that has developed a transmission problem. No forward drive in any selection but reverse does work. Had it towed to a transmission shop and they estimated the fix at $1200.00. I would probably tackle it myself but I'm in the middle of a house remodeling. Can't do everything. My question is, has anybody had this symptom and what fixed it and does that $1200 price sound inline. Thats about what the car is worth. I assuming the fix is a rebuilt at that price....Stan

Re: Transmission Problem
Sorry Stan but the diagnosis is correct. If it will not move forward the clutches may have gone totally out or the shaft is broken. I would call a wrecking yard and try to find a salvage transmission. Car-part.com is the website I recommend to search wrecking yards in your area for the best price on a transmission. I checked and depending on the engine size you should be able to find one for less than $250.

Thanks for your input. I'm mechanical and don't trust auto repair companies. I never take my cars in for repair. I study the problem and try to fix it myself till now. It needs a rebuilt in your opinion? No modulator, filter or loose hose? I trust your opinion and whoever speaks up. Much more than the garage thats got it now....Stan
