I have a 96 contour that has already had a new motor put in 3 months after I got it. I started to notice a rattling noise when i hit the gas a few months ago and thought that it might be the sheild on the exahust. I must have been outta my mind to think it was that simple. it constatly makes the noise now while driving, from the top of the car it sounds like its comming form around the altenator but my belt doesnt squeal and i dont lose any charge. It gets louder and more consistant if i use the AC or the heater. Any ideas?

a bat cat immediately comes to mind. Sorta sounds marbles in a can. Could be a busted motor mount too.
Do you have a V6 or I4?

I'm a ford tech and have seen a number of idler pullies on the timming belt make noise from that area. or one of your accessory pullies. try running with belt of and see if noise is still there(don't run it long) if it is I would guess its time for a new timming belt and pullies
