Well, the sifter is usually mounted so that you can shift properly, well, something is wrong <not exactly sure what it is> and the shift sits real low...and has alot of "play" room

Re: Transmission Failure! I need you for my transmission needs!
Well have you had any trouble shifting since it has dropped out? If so you might want to check the cables going from the trans to the shifter. It happened to my saturn SL1 and i had to get a whole new set of cables.

Ok, found out a lil more info recently...the shift is now sitting on the muffler...i need to know what could be broken in order for this to happen, seems like it may be missing a part to hold it to the car..<this is just the shift btw, not the transmission>

Re: Transmission Failure! I need you for my transmission needs!
If you look under the car, there are 2 long bars that connect the shifter to the transmission. One of these is for the actual shifter, it should be a ble to move etc, and bolts to a rod sticking of the side of the differential.- the other is a stabilizer bar, its job is just to hold the shifter tight and in line w/ the tranny, you'll see it connects to teh side of the housing - should not move.
Sounds to me like something is amiss in the stabilizer, where it connects to the undercarriage up under the shifter. On the 1.9 LX models, there are just a few small bolts holding it up there, maybe on yours those have broken. Unf yeah, the exhaust is in teh way, you'll have to remove it soe oyu can get under there and see what is broken. |

Quote:
Go to your local ford dealer and ask for a shifter assembly, what you will get is the stabilizer arm attached to a plate that mounts to the tranny tunnel. You will have to remove the shifter to replace the whole assembly. There should be enough room to slide it out past the exhaust. You also have to remove the housing between the seats where it mouns over the shifter, 4 phillips screws and it comes right off. If you have any other questions email me. |
