Engine Change Options...

hey again guys!! i have a 91 metro LSi, 117,000 miles. anyway, car loves to burn oil, and this is noticeable at highway speeds (smokes out of tail pipe under moderate to heavy throttle) but not really in city. head was redone in january and verdict after some testing is that rings are worn on it. i want to give this metro some juice, but obviosuly compression is down with worn rings. so what option should i do?

1) Rebuild current motor.

2) Buy a rebuilt 3 cyl

3) Buy a small four cylinder (i'm guessing you guys use a 1.3L swift motor?)......

what are the pros and cons of each, and also how easy is it to remove the motor on these things? i do not own an engine hoist or none of that fance stuff. thanks alot guys, trying to keep this metro kicking hopefully with some spunk.

Re: Engine Change Options...

to put in a 4 cyl you would probably need to find a wrecked swift for all the parts you would need, the wiring and mounts and tranny are different so are mounts and some brackets. as far as re-ringing you can do it with the engine in the car, have to pull the head back off and the pan. but for time and labor involved i have found its easier and cheaper for me to just change the engine, the jdm engines cost me around $300-$350 and so far have not had a bad one. if you have a automotic you can pull just the engine but if you have a 5 speed its usually faster to pull engine and tranny as a unit. will need a helper or rent a engine puller. they weigh under 200 pounds

jdm stands for Japanese Domestic Market. you can look on e-bay for one for sale near you or pick up a local free add paper, here they call it the little nickel. usually in the car parts section they will have advertisements for them
