Is the Chrysler 2.5L the same as the Jeep 2.5L?

Well, everyone, I'm new here so howdy. I've got a quick question for you all. Is the 2.5L used in the early 90s Chrysler Lebarrons and the like the same as the 2.5L used in my Jeep Wrangler? Its hard to find a turbo for a Jeep (and the 2.5L coupled with jeep aerodynamics is awful), so I was thinking if the two engines were the same, I could swap one into it. Anyone know anything about the two engines? Will the swap work?

Im really not sure, but why wouldnt they be the same. They are both 2.5L. they could be set up differently though.

That's what I'm rather worried about is that they could be set up differently. I know when Chrysler bought Jeep from AMC they retuned the 2.5L and 4.0L so its possibly the same now.

are you sure your wrangler has a 2.5? I thought they used the 2.3 OHV, though they were still under Chrysler control. I know the 2.5 used in front wheel drive Chryslers was also used in the Dodge Dakota until 1999.

The original 2.5's in AMC/Jeeps were GM, but that was back in the early '80s before Chrysler bought them from Renault . I think the Wranglers had the 2.5 up to about '03 then switched to the 2.4 . 2.5 Motor is the same as the old dodge dakota but is probably set up differently.

Let me clarify this a bit.

Jeep used the GM 'Iron Duke' 2.5 4 cyl in the late 70's to 1983. In '84 they got the AMC 2.5 liter which was completely different than the GM engine. (This was a completely new design and was based on the AMC 258 cid 6 cyl)

The Chrysler 2.5 liter 4 cyl from the 1980's was a Mitsubishi sourced engine and was completely different from the AMC and the GM engines.

mopar 2.5

You're very close. 2.6 with balance shafts was Mitsu sourced in the mid/late 80's. 2.5 jeep is based on the AMC 4.2 as prev stated. 2.5 ohv
in cars and minivans was a bored version of the 2.2. Parts are not interchangeable between engine families. I never checked but I suspect bolt patterns differ as well between 2.5 TJ and 2.5 passenger/minivan
blocks. Hope this helps
