2001 Maxima Reset Engine Service Soon light.

The light came on due to a misfire in the front three cylinders.

Now everything's back to how it was supposed to be, but the light is still on. Anyone know how to reset it?

I've heard of the 30 minute no battery trick, but I'm afraid it will erase the digi odometer, and I don't plan on going to jail for odometer fraud, intentional or unknown.

Anyone have any ideas? How much would the dealer charge to read/erase the code?

Thanks!

If you go to Autozone just tell them that your Engine Light is on and they can turn it off in like 3 seconds. They just take this handheld thing and plug it into the car.

It seriously takes no time. Also, its free!

If you've got some extra $$, go pay $150 for a scanner/code eraser. Money well spent!! You will become popular w/ your freinds too. Comes in handy at emissions time. I've helped people on this site with mine. You almost have to have one these days to work on todays cars, its like a 10mm socket.

Can u give the device name, specs, purchase place, please. I need one fitting OBDI & OBDII.

One could also say that if u have not got the '300$' extra for stealership, buy tools...

Hey Nahk-It is called an actron OBD autoscanner. If you just need OBD II, get the autoscanner, if you need both OBD I & II get the autoscanner kit. (has needed adaptor plugs) I ordered mine (just plain OBD II autoscanner) from JC Whitney for $140 put in my mailbox. Autozone sells the exact same thing for $160. And its the same thing that they use to read your car around here. The autozone ponytails here will not clear a code for you stating "they may get into trouble". Probably $niffing for a tip?? In this state if your CEL is on it is an instant emissions failure. If you can't get one where your at, mail me a check and I'll send you one. Could have bought 2 of em' the last time Nissan (@55holes) quoted me $611 to fix and I DYI'd for $200... She pays for herself.... And the beers your freinds buy you when it $aves them $$!!

Thank you, I'll try that JC Whitney if its like u say; my current 3gen maxima is OBDI. Hope they sell outside US with visa... Surely that is a tool needed: oscilloscope cannot cover all those features...

Taking batt out wont kill ya, car, or odometer... sleep well.
